Unless you have a concrete bloc instead of a heart you cannot read this compelling story and not cry a few times. It's such a poignant and sincere account of the struggles that so many African American musicians had to endure. How many talented artists worked totally unrecognized, how many just gave up? What a waste! Larry Taylor's fortitude is admirable always rebounding from adversities, each time with a new positive twist. Thank you Larry Taylor and Bonni McKeown.
Thank-you for placing the Blue Island Public Library on your book tour schedule! Your story is amazing. I was honored to be in the audience. May you continue to give & abundantly receive all that you require to live a healthy, happy & prosperous life.
The book is gripping. a very cool snapshot of Chicago history.
I found "Stepson of the Blues" to be a very gripping story, a hard to put down read. It gives a casual fan of the blues, such as me, a whole new perspective on the story behind the scenes of the blues we periodically enjoy at music fests, in clubs, or on the radio and TV.
I truly hope this book might become a stepping stone toward helping Larry Hill Taylor reap the fruit of his life long love for, and his proud, stubborn dedication to, the authentic music of his elders. May he, who has become an elder in his own right, be given the respected and profitable performance stage he has earned and deserves.
